I often feel very blessed and thankful for the fact that my work allows me to provide beautiful, healing treatments for clients on a regular basis. It really makes my heart sing. I feel honoured and grateful that people come and trust enough to be cared for. I have great appreciation that vulnerability takes courage, and so often clients come to practitioners when they are at their lowest.
I've come to know after being a hands-on therapist for more than 20 years, that for most people their true needs are often not being met in life. They may seem to have what they want, they may be surrounded by partners, family, friends and material comforts, but I do feel that deep down they aren't always receiving what they really truly need.
From my experience the thing I feel people long for more than anything is to feel themselves. To be in their heart. To reach that part inside of themselves that is serene, gentle, at peace and just is. It's to feel connected to themselves and at the same time everything else, all at once. In that place everything is perfect, and no matter what challenges you may be facing in life, there is a deep sense of safety and warmth.
I used to approach my therapies thinking that people just wanted to be pampered and to relax and made to feel beautiful. I thought that by nurturing them in this way it would be enough. As the years went by, I noticed how even by doing all of those yummy treatments my clients wouldn't necessarily let go completely. I now have the intention at the beginning of all of my treatments to not only give a wonderful massage, facial etc. but to help create a loving space where they can quieten their minds, relax their bodies and be immersed inside of themselves- feeling bliss.
I also truly believe that our bodies have the best built in pharmaceutical cabinet we could ever wish for, and if stress is removed and we can get out of our own way, then great healing can occur. So it's not surprising that so many times practitioners have clients arrive with all sorts of ailments, looking grey and exhausted and by the end of their session they can't feel the pain anymore and have a rosy complexion.
This can be true also of our hearts. Often when we are grappling for answers to difficulties in our lives, we can end up trying to figure everything out and end up caught up in our minds and only ending up tense and stressed. So when I approach a client and especially just before I begin their treatment and make the first touch, in a brief moment I acknowledge that they are a spiritual being in this body, and they are on their journey of life, and that I wish for them that they will receive in their heart all that they need during their treatment whether it's an intuition, or a realisation or simply the experience of letting go of worry.
So whilst I go about lighting candles, choosing gentle music, filling the room with relaxing aromas I am also in my heart and mind creating an intention for my client and myself. I decide that they will be looked after by me on all levels and that they will feel safe and loved. Most of all I create an ambience where everything is organised and beautiful so that the client will feel relieved the instant they walk in- almost like they know in the air waves, that they are in safe hands. From there I can provide an experience for them where I am there gently and quietly, giving them the sacred space on the outside to experience their own sacred space on the inside!
